The Friends of Hullett have three full time employees, and as funding allows, a number of summer students. In this section you will learn more about the employees and their roles at Hullett Marsh.
Scott Austin: Land Management Technician
After graduating as a Fish & Wildlife Technician from Fleming College, Scott has
since spent his entire career in the outdoor field. He has been a trapper, fishing
guide, as well as gaining eight years of experience of operating a waterfowl guiding
business in Huron County. He served as treasurer and was a founding FOH Board of Director in the late 1990's. He also spent 15 years with MNRF gathering data on
the southern Lake Huron fishery before owning and operating Bayfield Fish &
Seafood. After looking for something new, Scott has come home, back to his
educational background managing the HPWA with acquired business skills and a passion for the future of the marsh. Scott is in his 13th year with FOH, being manager for 12 of them, and is now slowly transitioning into retirement. He enjoys the opportunities he gets to work with volunteers and assisting in developing young staff members.
Ben Elliott: Wildlife & GIS Technician
Ben is a graduate of the Fish and Wildlife Technician program at Fleming College and has a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University. Since completing school, he has been eager to further his education by applying his knowledge and love for the outdoors in a professional setting. Ben is an amateur hunter and angler who enjoys spending his time in the outdoors as much as possible. Ben is in his 3rd year as the FOH Wildlife & GIS Technician and enjoys the time that he gets to spend exploring all that the marsh has to offer.
Justin Johnson: Marsh Manager
Justin is a graduate of both the University of Windsor (B.Sc.) and the University of Alberta (M.Sc.). His academic background is focused primarily on avian ecology, particularly migration behaviour of birds interpreted through bioacoustics. Before coming to the Friends of Hullett, Justin worked alongside industry and government in the Alberta oilsands, led stewardship projects for the Friends of Pinery Park, managed invasive plants for Ontario Parks, and worked for the Nature Conservancy of Canada in the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island Archipelago as an Assistant Conservation Biologist. Justin enjoys birding, kayaking, camping and hiking both locally and further afield. He is inspired by the opportunity to leverage his scientific skillset for the benefit of Hullett Marsh.
